Baal Theatre Present – Ginoid – Can Jeroni
This week presents a unique cultural experience with the theatrical production “Gynoid” by the Balearic troupe Baal. This event will take place at the Can Jeroni Cultural Center auditorium in San José.
Catalina Carrasco, both the creator and performer, alongside Gaspar Morey, bring this play to life. It is supported by the Institut Balear de la Dona and is scheduled for Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at 8 PM.
With a runtime of 55 minutes, the play explores a future where personal connections are a rare luxury. The narrative follows Austin, a high-ranking tech executive at a global firm, who is trapped in a relentless work cycle. Seeking escape, Austin turns to Nana, a gynoid designed with feminine features, primarily for sexual purposes, mirroring the neoliberal era’s stereotypical views on women’s objectification.
Drawing inspiration from narratives like “The Handmaid’s Tale,” “Black Mirror,” and “Ex-machina,” “Gynoid” delves into thought-provoking queries regarding the nature of romantic and sexual bonds in the days to come and in current times.
Another opportunity to watch the play is on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at the Sant Francesc Culture Center in Formentera, also at 8 PM.
Admission to this event is complimentary.
