Concurso Mundial d’Arròs de Matances a Sant Antoni – World Championship of Matanzas Rice in Sant Antoni

The Concurso Mundial d’Arròs de Matances, or the World Championship of Matanzas Rice, is a traditional competition that takes place in Sant Antoni. The event, which is a part of the Sant Antoni Abad festivity, celebrates the traditional dish of matanzas rice, a hearty winter meal made with an abundance of meat and vegetables. The competition is open to participants from around the world, who prepare and present their rice dishes at economical prices. The championship, now in its 11th edition, is a lighthearted and popular event that forms a key part of the Sant Antoni festival. The competition is open to teams of up to 15 people, who must prepare their own matanzas rice during the event. The day is filled with a range of activities, including a popular rice dish, music, entertainment, traditional dance, and the awards ceremony. The top three teams receive a selection of local products, with the winner also receiving a steel sculpture crafted by artist Marco Zurita.
